EV Car Comparison: 2022 Kia Niro EV vs Kia EV6

Back at the very beginning of 2021, Kia revealed that it was planning to make a big push to start producing more electric vehicles (EVs). The South Korean car company announced it will have seven EVs available by the time 2027 rolls around.

It remains to be seen whether Kia will be able to live up to this promise. But they’re off to a strong start thanks to the 2022 Kia Niro EV and the 2022 Kia EV6. These are the first two EVs Kia has launched, and they’re both great options for those interested in investing in Kia EVs.

So, which of these Kia EVs should you buy if you’re in the market for one? We’ve put together a comparison pitting the 2022 Kia Niro EV against the Kia EV6 to help you figure out which one you should go with.

See how the 2022 Kia Niro EV and the Kia EV6 stack up below.

Any time you’re kicking around the idea of purchasing an EV, you should always take a look at what kind of range it gets. Range refers to how far an EV can travel before you need to charge the battery.

The good news for those comparing the 2022 Kia Niro EV and the Kia EV6 is that both cars get great range. The Niro EV can get up to 239 miles on a single charge, while the EV6 can get up to 232 miles.

That being said, it’s worth noting that some of the more advanced EV6 models can get well over 300 miles on a single charge. It’s also worth noting that the EV6 is capable of charging much more quickly than the Niro EV.

The EV6 can get back about 80% of its charge within just 20 minutes when it’s plugged into a Level 3 DC fast charging station. In contrast, it takes the Niro EV about 75 minutes to get to the same level while plugged into this particular station.

Performance

Besides considering the ranges of the 2022 Kia Niro EV and the Kia EV6, you should also give some thought to how the vehicles in each range perform. When you do, you’ll find that the EV6 is going to give you better performance in most cases.

The EV6 GT, in particular, has a dual-motor configuration that can produce up to 576 horsepower and 546 lb-ft of torque. That sends this EV6 flying from zero to 60 in just 3.5 seconds.

The Niro EV, meanwhile, can only produce about 201 horsepower on its best day. It’s also front-wheel drive only, which might not appeal to everyone who is shopping around for Kia EVs.

Interior Space

If you want to be able to stretch out inside your Kia EV, you’ll like what you see when you compare the 2022 Kia Niro EV with the Kia EV6. Kia gave the EV6 a sporty design, which makes it look great from the outside. But this design does cut into how much space is available on the inside of the EV6 just a bit.

The EV6 only has 50.2 cubic feet of cargo space. The Niro EV, meanwhile, has 54.5 cubic feet of cargo space. This might seem like a relatively small difference, but it’ll be a big deal for those who want an EV with some extra room in it.

Technology

In recent years, Kia has started incorporating more technology into many of their base models to give their vehicles a higher-end look and feel. The carmaker has continued this trend with the 2022 Kia Niro EV and the Kia EV6. But it’s the EV6 that gets the slight nod over the Niro EV when you compare the tech features found in both vehicles.

The Niro EV has a 10.25-inch touch screen that comes standard. The EV6, on the other hand, has a 12.3-inch touch screen, as well as a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster to boot. This makes the EV6 the clear-cut winner in the tech department and one of the best Kias on the market in terms of the tech that comes standard.

MSRP

Compared with some of the other EVs out there, both the 2022 Kia Niro EV and the Kia EV6 are on the lower end of the spectrum when it comes to price. You can actually buy either one for less than the average price of a new car right now.

The Niro EV is the less expensive model, starting at just $41,205. But the EV6 isn’t going to break the bank either, as it has a starting MSRP of just $42,115.

Some of the more advanced Niro EV and EV6 models can get up there in price because of the additional features that are crammed into them. Even so, the 2022 Kia Niro EV vs. Kia EV6 debate is about even as far as price is concerned.

2022 Kia Niro EV vs. Kia EV6: Which One Should You Buy?

If you’re looking to buy an EV in the near future, make sure you’re keeping a close eye on what Kia is bringing to the table. Their commitment to creating EVs should see them release a slew of new models in the coming years.

For now, your only two choices are the 2022 Kia Niro EV and the Kia EV6. But as you’ve seen here, these aren’t bad choices to have. Each of these EVs has features that make them appealing to those shopping for an EV right now.
