At the beginning of 2021, Kia revealed that it planned to make a big push to produce more electric vehicles (EVs). The South Korean car company announced that it will have seven EVs available by 2027.

It remains to be seen whether Kia can live up to this promise. But they’re off to a strong start thanks to the 2022 Kia Niro EV and the 2022 Kia EV6. These are the first two EVs Kia has launched, and they’re both great options for those interested in investing in Kia EVs.

So, which of these Kia EVs should you buy if you’re in the market for one? We’ve compiled a comparison pitting the 2022 Kia Niro EV against the Kia EV6 to help you determine which one you should go with.

See how the 2022 Kia Niro EV and the Kia EV6 stack below.

Range

Any time you’re kicking around the idea of purchasing an EV, you should always take a look at what kind of range it gets. Range refers to how far an EV can travel before charging the battery.

The good news for those comparing the 2022 Kia Niro EV and the Kia EV6 is that both cars have great range. The Niro EV can travel up to 239 miles on a single charge, while the EV6 can travel up to 232 miles.

That said, it’s worth noting that some of the more advanced EV6 models can travel well over 300 miles on a single charge and can charge much more quickly than the Niro EV.

When plugged into a Level 3 DC fast charging station, the EV6 can recover about 80% of its charge in just 20 minutes. In contrast, it takes the Niro EV about 75 minutes to reach the same level.

Performance

Besides considering the ranges of the 2022 Kia Niro EV and the Kia EV6, you should also consider how the vehicles in each range perform. When you do, you’ll find that the EV6 will usually give you better performance.

The EV6 GT, in particular, has a dual-motor configuration that can produce up to 576 horsepower and 546 lb-ft of torque. This EV6 can fly from zero to 60 in just 3.5 seconds.

The Niro EV, meanwhile, can only produce about 201 horsepower on its best day. It’s also front-wheel drive only, which might not appeal to everyone shopping around for Kia EVs.

Interior Space

If you want to stretch out inside your Kia EV, you’ll like what you see when you compare the 2022 Kia Niro EV with the Kia EV6. Kia gave the EV6 a sporty design, which makes it look great from the outside. However, this design does cut into the amount of space available on the inside of the EV6 just a bit.

The EV6 only has 50.2 cubic feet of cargo space, while the Niro EV has 54.5 cubic feet. This might seem like a relatively small difference, but it’ll be a big deal for those who want an EV with some extra room.

Technology

In recent years, Kia has started incorporating more technology into many of its base models to give its vehicles a higher-end look and feel. The carmaker has continued this trend with the 2022 Kia Niro EV and the Kia EV6. However, when you compare the tech features in both vehicles, the EV6 gets a slight nod over the Niro EV.

The Niro EV comes standard with a 10.25-inch touchscreen. The EV6, on the other hand, has a 12.3-inch touch screen and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. This makes the EV6 the clear-cut winner in the tech department and one of the best Kias on the market in terms of the tech that comes standard.

MSRP

Compared with some of the other EVs, both the 2022 Kia Niro EV and the Kia EV6 are on the lower end of the spectrum regarding price. You can buy either one for less than the average price of a new car right now.

The Niro EV is the less expensive model, starting at just $41,205. But the EV6 isn’t going to break the bank either, with a starting MSRP of just $42,115.

Some of the more advanced Niro EV and EV6 models can be more expensive because of the additional features they pack. Even so, the 2022 Kia Niro EV vs. Kia EV6 debate is about even as far as price is concerned.

2022 Kia Niro EV vs. Kia EV6: Which One Should You Buy?

If you’re looking to buy an EV soon, keep a close eye on Kia’s offerings. Their commitment to creating EVs should see them release many new models in the coming years.

Your only two choices are the 2022 Kia Niro EV and the Kia EV6. But as you’ve seen here, these aren’t bad choices. Each of these EVs has features that make them appealing to those shopping for an EV right now.
