Are you currently in the market for a small, budget-friendly sedan that will check all the right boxes for you?

For a long time now, the Kia Forte and the Hyundai Elantra have been two of the best options for those interested in buying compact sedans that won’t break the bank. You should take a look at each of them and see which one might work best for you.

We’re going to help you make the right call by comparing the 2022 Kia Forte versus the Hyundai Elantra to find out which one comes out on top. It should shine some light on each sedan and show you which of them is the best choice for the current model year.

Continue reading to get the inside scoop on the 2022 Kia Forte versus Hyundai Elantra debate.

Exterior

The 2022 Kia Forte and the Hyundai Elantra are both very similar in the looks department. They’re about what you would expect from the latest iterations of the Forte and Elantra.

But that isn’t a bad thing. Kia and Hyundai have worked hard to make both of these compact cars sleek and modern looking. They each feature a variety of curves that make them look super sporty and fun.

You really can’t go wrong with either the Forte or the Elantra based on looks alone since they have appearances that are so similar to one another.

Engine Performance and Handling

If you pop the hoods on the 2022 Kia Forte and the 2022 Hyundai Elantra, you’ll find engines that will provide you with almost the same amount of power inside of both of them.

The 2022 Kia Forte comes with a standard 2.0-Liter four-cylinder engine, though you will also have the option to upgrade to a 1.6-Liter turbocharged engine if you would like. The 2022 Hyundai Elantra, on the other hand, also comes equipped with a standard 2.0-Liter four-cylinder engine or an optional 1.6-Liter turbo-four engine.

With this in mind, the performance and handling that you get from the 2022 Kia Forte versus the Hyundai Elantra shouldn’t be all that different. It’ll be comparable to the performance and handling you would receive from most compact cars.

Fuel Economy

Although the 2022 Kia Forte and the 2022 Hyundai Elantra essentially come with the same engines in them, you’re not going to get the same gas mileage out of the two compact cars. You should find that the Elantra will provide you with slightly better fuel economy than the Forte.

With the base engine in it, the Elantra is going to deliver 31 miles per gallon in the city and 41 miles per gallon on the highway. A comparable Forte, meanwhile, will get you 29 miles per gallon in the city and 39 miles per gallon on the highway.

You can increase all of these numbers by opting for a 2022 Kia Forte or a 2022 Hyundai Elantra with an upgraded engine in it. Even with the upgrade, the Elantra is going to win out when it comes to gas mileage.

Interior Cabin and Cargo Space

Both the 2022 Kia Forte and the 2022 Hyundai Elantra keep things relatively simple on the interior. From the start, you aren’t going to find too much extra room to stretch out since they’re already on the smaller side.

With that in mind, if you’re interested in giving your passengers a little bit of legroom in the back, the Elantra will be the better option. It provides 38 inches of legroom in the rear, while the Forte only provides 35.7 inches in the rear.

The Forte has a leg up on the Elantra as far as cargo space is concerned, though. While the Elantra only has 14.2 cubic feet of cargo space, the Forte has 15.3 cubic feet of cargo space. It’s a nice tradeoff for the lack of rear legroom in the Forte.

Entertainment

Kia recently put the Forte through a redesign. Due to its upgraded technology, this remodel has vastly improved the car’s connectivity and entertainment features. It comes with a standard 8-inch touch screen and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capabilities.

Unfortunately, that might not be enough for the Forte to outdo the Elantra in the entertainment department. The Elantra also has a similar touch screen along with a great digital key feature that can put you in a position to unlock your car with your smartphone.

Starting Price

Arguably the best part about buying either a 2022 Kia Forte or a 2022 Hyundai Elantra is going to be the price tag that you find on it. Both cars are going to offer the most bang for your buck when you invest in a compact car.

The Forte gets a slight nod over the Elantra since it starts at just an MSRP base price of $20,085 compared to the MSRP price of $20,875 for the Hyundai. You can also upgrade to the sporty Forte GT for about $2,000 less than the equivalent Elantra N Line will cost you. If your goal is to get your hands on an affordable compact sedan that packs more of a punch than you might think, you shouldn’t be shy about going in this direction.
