6 Dog-Friendly Activities in McKinney, TX

Being a pet owner can be a very rewarding experience, but one of the biggest challenges of having a dog is leaving it at home while you go out. Luckily, McKinney is a very dog-friendly city and offers plenty of places you can enjoy with your pet. Whether you’re a new pet owner or are looking for new places to take an old pet, here are six dog-friendly activities in McKinney, Texas, that you need to check out.

1. Dog-Friendly Parks

Several parks, although not explicitly listed as dog parks, allow dogs in the McKinney area. You and your family can get out and enjoy some fresh air, and as long as your dog is kept leashed, they can join in on the fun as well. The following are a few of the many dog-friendly parks in McKinney.

  • Aviator Park: Located at 1202 Monticello Drive. This park is spread over 10 acres and offers a large play structure your kids can enjoy, picnic areas for lunch, and restrooms. You can enjoy the grassy areas and the trail here if your dog is leashed.
  • Inspiration Park: Located at 4212 Shawnee Drive. This beautiful park is another 10-acre play area that’s a perfect place to enjoy with the family. You’ll find easy parking, a splash pad, and a play area.
  • Katherine B. Winniford Park: Located at 4900 Highlands Drive, this park is over 16 acres and a great place to take your dog. It has a large 2.5-acre pond for fishing, picnic areas, and a play area for the kids. There’s also a trail for hiking, biking, and dog walking.

Your dog and your family will feel refreshed and relaxed wherever you end up after visiting one of these local parks. Don’t forget to bring some water for everyone, including your four-legged friend.

2. The Canine Cookie Company

Are you ready for your dog’s new favorite spot? If so, check out The Canine Cookie Company. This cute bakery has dedicated itself to one mission: to give dogs treats that are good for them and that they love to eat. Their cakes are made with real boneless and skinless chicken, and with options such as the peanut butter-filled PupTarts, your dog is sure to perk up every time you drive by. They also have individual Pupcakes, mini Puppycakes, and traditional flat-cut cookies. You’ll also find high-quality collars, dog apparel, and grooming products.

3. Bonnie Wenk Dog Park

Although different parks where you can take your dog have already been shared, the Bonnie Wenk Dog Park was designed specifically for dogs. This two-acre, off-leash park is fenced off for unleashed fun for your pup. You’ll find separated areas for more extensive and smaller dogs, a shaded pavilion, and even a splash pad designed for dogs. You can let your dog play, make friends, and cool off on our hot Texas days before heading home. A couple of reminders for using the park include:

  • Rabies vaccination must be current, and the tag must be displayed.
  • Leave those vulnerable puppies under four months of age at home.
  • Only three dogs per owner are allowed at a time.

Your dog will love the freedom of this leash-free park as they run around with the wind in their fur and the sun on their face.

4.  Splash and Dash Groomerie and Boutique

At Splash and Dash Groomerie and Boutique, you can bring your pup in for a spa day of their very own. Their services include full-service dog grooming and unique dog-geared spa services such as aromatherapy treatments. They also offer an unlimited monthly bath and brush service if you’ve got a pup that likes to get dirty at the dog park.

Pick up some of their high-quality dog food or something special from the boutique for a fun treat. You can let the professionals keep your dog’s teeth sparkling and get rid of stinky breath with a dental treatment too. They’re located at 6710 Virginia Parkway, Suite B-220.

5. Dog-Friendly Eateries

McKinney is home to several dog-friendly eateries where you and your favorite pup can visit and enjoy a meal. Snug on the Square, a local coffeehouse with delicious breakfast and lunch fares, is first up. You can pick a spot on the patio to kick back with your dog and enjoy a mocha and omelet or soup and salad. Ask for a dog-friendly treat so your pup isn’t trying to steal yours. You’ll find them at 109 N Kentucky St.

Harry’s at the Harbor is another restaurant with a dog-friendly patio where you can dine with your four-legged friend. Order a cold beer and a burger and enjoy lake views while your dog enjoys a bowl of water to keep cool. They’re located at 6601 Mediterranean Drive.

You can also check out Palio’s Pizza Cafe at 6405 Eldorado Parkway. This fun pizzeria has 10 outdoor tables that are pet-friendly. You can build your own pizza or order something special to share with your dog. Plan to spend the day at the dog park and then finish up a fun day out with some more fresh air and delicious food.

6. Sheraton McKinney

If you’re getting bored at home and want to spend a weekend out, book a staycation where you and your dog can relax. The Sheraton McKinney at 1900 Gateway Blvd. is pet-friendly and offers Wi-Fi, comfortable beds, and a continental breakfast. There’s also an outdoor pool, which means outdoor space for your dog to enjoy. Drop your dog off at Splash and Dash while you pamper yourself, and then you can both come back and snuggle up after dinner at one of the dog-friendly restaurants above.

We hope you and your favorite furry friend enjoy these local dog-friendly places. If you have other favorites you think we should know about, message us here at Huffines Kia McKinney. We’re always looking for new places to take our four-legged friends.
