Almost every automaker has promised to create more electric vehicles (EVs) in the coming years. But very few have stepped up to the plate quite like Kia has. Back in 2021, Kia announced it was planning to launch 11 EVs by the time 2026 came around. And it appears as though the South Korean car manufacturer is going to stick to its word. The 2024 Kia EV9 will be Kia’s next new EV to hit American highways. Learn more about what it’ll bring to the table below.
Powerful EV Motors and Batteries
As their names suggest, the first two 2024 Kia EV9 trim levels feature rear-wheel drive. The Standard RWD trim has one rear-mounted electric motor that can generate up to 215 horsepower, while the Standard RWD Long Range trim has a similar electric motor setup that can produce up to 201 horsepower. The difference between the two is that the entry-level trim has a 76.1 kWh battery pack, and the RWD Long Range trim has a 99.8 kWh battery pack that will be able to get up to 300 miles per charge.
Meanwhile, the Standard AWD and GT-Line trims have dual-motor arrangements capable of producing up to 379 horsepower. They can also come equipped with an optional Boost mode that’ll allow them to accelerate faster than those without this mode. Still, these all-wheel drive trims are unlikely to offer the kind of battery range that’ll be available with the rear-wheel drive trims. But the good news is that every 2024 Kia EV9 will rely on Kia’s unique 800-volt charging system that should make it possible to add almost 150 miles of range to any EV9 battery in only 15 minutes.
Electrifying Exterior
The battery tucked away inside the 2024 Kia EV9 is far from the only thing that makes this SUV unique. At first glance, it appears to be a vehicle that was snatched from the future, thrown inside a time machine, and brought back to 2023. It has a sleek and futuristic look and feel you won’t find in many other EVs today. It’s also quite big for an EV. It’s around the same size as the popular Kia Telluride, which makes it more imposing than many other EVs.
Terrific Trim Levels
Since Kia is rolling the 2024 EV9 out for the first time, you might think there would only be one or two trim levels. But there are four trim levels you can take for a test drive before deciding which one you’d like to take home for everyday use. The available trims are the Standard RWD trim, the Standard RWD Long Range trim, the Standard AWD trim, and the top-tier GT-Line trim.
Spacious Interior
As we alluded to, the 2024 Kia EV9 is about as big as the Kia Telluride. With this in mind, it shouldn’t be a surprise to hear its interior will be spacious enough to seat up to seven (or six if you decide to go with captain’s chairs over a bench in the second row). The 2024 EV9 will offer three comfortable rows of seating, including a power-folding third row you can put down to increase cargo space. This third row will also extend more than enough legroom and headroom if you keep it up.
Top-of-the-Line Tech
You’ll find many cool things scattered throughout the interior of the 2024 Kia EV9. But one thing you won’t find is any physical knobs. Instead, there will be two 12.3-inch touch screens on the EV9’s dashboard. One will be for a digital gauge cluster and the other for an infotainment system. There is also enough room in between these screens for the EV9’s HVAC controls. Kia hasn’t yet revealed what the infotainment system in the EV9 will be like, but rest assured it’ll be every bit as futuristic as the rest of the SUV.
So Many Safety Features
In general, Kia has always been great at providing as many standard safety features as possible in all its vehicles. But the company really went all out with the safety features you’ll find in the 2024 Kia EV9. Automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning with lane-keep assist, and adaptive cruise control are standard in the EV9. If you choose to go with the GT-Line trim, you’ll also have access to a hands-free driving mode that’ll genuinely transform your travels around the McKinney, Texas, area.
Best-in-Class Warranty
In addition to being known for its safety features, Kia has earned an outstanding reputation for providing some of the best warranties around. This trend will continue with the 2024 Kia EV9. It’ll have a limited warranty spanning five years or 60,000 miles, and a powertrain warranty lasting for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Kia won’t include any complimentary maintenance, but the EV9 also shouldn’t need quite as much care as other models that don’t run on electricity.
Competitive Starting Price
The 2024 Kia EV9 won’t be the most affordable option in the Kia lineup. But it will have a cost-effective price compared to some other EVs. Kia hasn’t set the prices for the 2024 EV9 in stone just yet, but Car and Driver reports that the Standard RWD will start at around $56,000, while the Standard RWD Long Range will begin at approximately $63,000. The Standard AWD, meanwhile, will start at about $68,000, while the GT-Line will begin at around $73,000.
